00 You're listening to Big the Society, and I'm Jeremiah Byron. In this show, we go beyond the campfire stories to bring you first hand encounters from people who say they've seen something impossible. From backwoods trails and remote mountain haulers to quiet farms and crowded highways. The stories come from everywhere, and each one leaves us with more questions than answers. These are the. Voices of the people who've lived it. To settle in, because today you'll hear another account that just might change the way you see the woods forever. So stay with us. How's it going pretty good? Feel free to share what your experience was. I'll try and make this quick. It's been a lot of years. That's fine.

40 Yeah, it's kind of an interesting one. But you know, I think it was ninety six, and I'll kind of give you a location, me and the wife and I think Cody was five miles. All of a sudden then well now. But we went to go camping at Sunset Camgrounds on Memorial Weekend in ninety six. And where the Sunset Campgrounds. You can find that. It's east of Battleground, probably about thirty miles. And then they were. Full, so I decided to go over to Elk Camp over towards wind River. So we went up through Copper you know, up Copper Creek. I think it's for a service road forty one, and it goes up over Lookout.

25 And it'll drop you down to the Stabler. But this rig I had was a newer rig, and we made it up to look Out and we were just kind of on our way down the downslope side and the motor took a dump. Yeah, it sucked. And so I had a land cruiser. With a little utility trailer on with all of our gear in it, and so I just kept coasting down the hill and down the hill and down the hill and until I couldn't go any further and just got it off alongside the road. And everything I'm going to bring up to you, I want you just. To envision it, because after all these years and thinking about it and things, you hear it kind of it's kind of weird.

06 So sorry, real quick, just for listeners that are confused, this is Scamania County, Washington, the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Right, yeah, yep, that's. Right, yep, yep, go ahead, Yeah, And another thing you can look. At is the headwaters of Wash Sugle. If you were to bring that all the way up there and just maybe a couple of ridges over, it's probably about where it was on service. I think it was for a service Bronk forty one, so pretty close to that area pinpointed. But anyway, so we got pulled over and I wasn't gonna be able to get it going. So I'm making some notes to send down if people were to come by, to get a hold of a buddy to come up the next day and get me so we could go get a doll in, get the rig out of there and stuff. But so I set up the tent, and you know, it's probably gonna be a few hours at that point before dark.

57 But set up the tent. Of the land cruiser, and I'm gonna explain the situation the surroundings in a minute. But a forest ranger had come by and he was adamant. I mean, it was kind of funny how adamant he was. He's like, you can't camp here, and I'm like, I don't want to camp here. You know, I said, my rig broke down. I'm not leaving it. You know. They just get stolen or vandalized. But he must have messed with me for thirty minutes. And I said, if you're going to give me a ticket, just give it to me, because I'm not leaving until we all go out. You know. He didn't give me a ticket, and he left, but he probably hung around for thirty minutes. But it looked back now, it's like, why was he adamant about me wanting to get out of there?

41 You know? It was just weird and I think about it now and then so I always, like I said, I'm a hunter. You know, I had a twenty two on me and I have a shotgun in the trailer. But you know, and so we made dinner and you know, I had a good. Dinner and all that, and set there and I kind of made a small fire. I'd send notes down with two or three cars and hopefully it got to my buddy, you know, And it's starting to get dark. It's twilight time, you know, not quite dark, not quite over the. Mountains, you know. And now I'm gonna describe how we were and where we were. So if you ever look at the map, how that is, you know, due south is the Columbia River gorge way down in there and on the road we're at, I would say, to the east of where my truck broke down.

33 It was not even. An eighth of a mile where go down and make it left around you know that ridge that's going up behind me, And I got a ridge you know that goes up behind me to the north, and like I said, it drops off south on the other side of the land cruise. It probably dropped off the road about ten feet and then it leveled up and it went on down. I don't even know what it looks like beyond that. But so all late time we already got to know with dinner, you know, I had everything wrapped up, so we'd go to bed, made a small fire, and now it's pretty much dark, and behind me, about sixty yards up in that where that ridge behind me goes up is a whistle and I'll kind of make it for you.

20 And it was like just a single It was I can't do it, but just one single whistle that lasted five seconds. Not even that. That's weird, you know, And trust me, I've been hunting all my life camp roppers, birds, you know, and I don't know what this was, but I just sat there. In probably five minutes, it did it again. So I kind of stood up and kind of whistled back, and you know, I'm like, that's weird or whatever, and sat back down. I wasn't scared, and like I said, I did have a twenty two on me, but I wasn't concerned. I wasn't scared. But probably ten minutes. Later, it's really dark now, the whist behind me goes, and then down where the ridge comes out to the road is another whistle, a little different tone but about the same you know, length.

10 And I'm like, well, that's weird. So I grabbed the flashlight and I walked down there, and I'm kind of like looking around, you know, and I'm like trying to make it whistle and see what the heck it is and nothing. So I went back and said back down in the chair. And I don't know. It had to have been ten fifteen minutes later. While the wife in that time, she's like, I'm going to bed. I'm like, we'll go to bed, you know. So she took Cody in with her and they were going to go to bed. But ten to fifteen minutes after that whistle, you know, up where the ridge met the road. You know, I went back down, sat down, and I'm not dude, I'm telling you. Behind the tent on the south side was a whistle that was so freaking loud, like it was right behind the tent. I mean it was right there, whatever it was, and so I wasn't unconcerned. But I'm like, you know, I'm still not quite sure what's going on.

05 I've got these things all around me now. So I went over to the trailer and I grabbed the shotgun and I puffed a couple of shells into it. I'm not waving it around like a. Madman, but at this point I get one more whistle, I'm gonna shoot in that direction. I don't care. But I walked over around the back of the tent with a flashlight, looking up, looking down, can't find nothing, didn't hear anything. It was dry out, no twigs snapping, no nothing. And I went and set back down in that chair with the shotgun, just waiting because, like I said, I can't wait to shoot it. I really want to, and I don't. I bet it was fifteen twenty minutes later on that ridge on the upper side over the first one whistled, but further up was three different whistles, but you know, they weren't too far away from each other, but it was like it was that's the oddest thing. And uh yeah, so that's my story. You tell me what you think it is.

06 Uh my goodness. I think you're probably one of the luckiest dudes to get out of there without anything else happening, because I hear stuff like that all the time, and man, you're you're the part where you're like the ranger didn't want to let you go. I've heard I've heard an account where it was south of Saint Helen's and this lady got she broke down out there, and the rangers tried to come out and help her, and she started hearing noises all around the vehicle, and the rangers cut freaked out and left her there. She had to stay overnight and wait for one of her friends to come save her.

50 But dude, I think once you get into the Gifford Pinchot in Skamanean County, all bets are off. Man, you never know what you're going to run into out there. I'm surprised it didn't so you you ended up leaving and nothing else happened. Besides, oh we didn't leave. I was. I was broke down there. I just went to bed. I went to bed. I never heard another peep out of them. I don't know if they got extra sense, you know, smelling, and they could smell that you know gun, which you know you would be afraid of. And I wasn't waving around like a freak time. I wasn't even scared. That's the thing. I wasn't scared. I was trying to figure it out in my head. Why I'm being surrounded by these whistles, you know. Yeah, and that part. I don't hunt that area. I always hunt, you know, in inland war, you know, between Saint Helens. I've never investigated that area. But I don't know now that I think about it, you know, making that dinner, you know, if it was a known you know walkway for these things, you know, and like I've heard others people telling, you know, I made that you know, really nice smelling dinner.

55 They probably came over and it's like checking us out. Oh yeah, was it like bacon or some kind of meat or something? Oh yeah, Oh yeah, oh yeah. That's I know a lot of people. They'll do that to bring them in So then how did you finally get eui of there? Did someone come and save you? Yah? Yeah, Well the next day my brother and my buddy came up with their rig and a dolly, so we got the that all hooked up. So yeah, and then we all got out of there the next day. But wow, that's wild. But I never heard a peep out of anymore. Those whistles just kept going further up the ridge. I wanted to chase them, you know what I mean. I was just like, I got the gut, I want to go, you know's find out what the heck's going on.

36 But it was just amazing. Being in that area. Have you heard of any other stories of things that have happened and that you know Differentia? Oh God, Skamania. Yeah, they're all over. I mean. The only other one I'll share with you was my dad. You know, he's he's gone, and I'm sure his buddy Orble's gone. But they were up there hunting towards the Eight Canyon, you know, the caves up in there. And the story was he never told us until we got older because he didn't want to scare us. But Orbole's been in a hunter up there forever and he had taken up a trail and the fog was in, and so he kind of just stopped and sat there, and he's seen something was speaking beyond a tree that was tall, you know, maybe I don't know, seventy five yards away when the fog had left.

26 He's seen it, and he's like, what the heck? The fog rolled in, and it moved closer towards him, and you know, I think it even moved closer again, and he decrabbed as gonna went back to camp. But he's he knows it's a big foot, you know, but he never told us until we got old enough to you know. But I've never yeah, I've traveled so many mountains, Pacific crests, oh, so many trails and so many areas that I have never had anything, you know, even weird like what happened on that side, you. Know, Oh yeah, wile to count. I mean, even though. It's one of those where it's like it was so close to turn into something else. My goodness, I'm blown away.

11 Thank you for coming up and sharing that, sir. Yep, yep, So listen for the whistles. That's true. Don't go fall in the whistles there you go, all right, all right, later, have a good one, you too. Yeah, guys, don't go fall on whistles. And if something says your name in the woods, don't don't do it. All right, let's uh, let's continue. Hey, tech, how are you. Hi? How are you doing for a mile thirty southbound heading towards Memphis today? Oh? Hey, I aw, it's a little hard to hear you. Sorry about that. I am an Alaskan Native. I am an Cultra long haul driver, and uh, I have had experiences and a sighting.

00 Okay, this is great. Feel free to share what you've experienced up there, sir. Okay, Well, my name is Martin. I am from the very south of southern Alaska, southeast Alaska on on Thattt Island. There is a native reserve there that was established by Congress in the eighteen. Eighteen eighties, and so. Are our people are fishermen there, so I want to share an experience about The location was lower Lower Tambas Lake.

49 There's a utility road that in the lake. It feeds water into a hatchery there, so you know, there's a lot of fish there and so we decided to go camping. It was. Like the I think it was maybe the week. After Memorial Day actually, and you know at summertime. This was the year two thousand and about a dozen of my friends and I and our girl, you know, a couple of those guys in our group, and out there with us we took a like a fourteen foot skiff.

29 We we had looked at the map and we're like, oh, let's go to this cove. You know, there's a little cove. And then we set up camp there. And there were these all kinds of perfectly nice smooth boulders there. We moved you know, some of them out of the way so we can set up our tents. And all that, and it gets into you know, gets into the evening hours. It doesn't get dark until like probably ten thirty at night at that point. In other in Alaska it doesn't see daylight is the northern part of the state will. But so there we were.

09 We had fish that we had come down in the stream earlier that day. We you know, barbecued. Basically, had a fish on a stick that night, and we decided to bust out our truck gear. We had a glow in the dark beat and so you know, about half of us were over there fishing this little cove. The cove is probably it is probably about ten feet deep altogether. You could probably walk across it, across the boulders that were in the bottom of us, and the other half were over by the fire, you know, drinking beer, you know. Just hanging out. We're you know, we're all about nineteen twenty years old at that point, so we're out there having a few beers, having a little camping party. But then, you know, the five or six of us that were over there fishing, we were catching a fish. We're talking eighteen to twenty one inch trout every single cast. We're easing glowing the dark bake and so they're like, whoa, whoa, you think we have enough?

15 And they're like, yeah, yeah, you like, wait a second to hear them. And I started to hear this cracking, like branches cracking, and this the mountain is so steep right up from that lake, and I said, hey, you guys, be quiet, be quiet. There's something going there's something moving around them. And sure enough, everybody got quiet, and we're, you know, pro about a minute later, we heard it and it's just a loud cracks and we're talking, this is southeast Alaska. These aren't tweaks. These are branches that are, you know, four to five inches thick and I have fallen from the storm.

59 On the mountainside. You know. He could hear those things breaking and we're like, what in the world. And my buddy was like. To appease the safety and security of the ladies that were there. He said, Oh, it's just a crackling front of the fire. And then we heard a crack, and man, everybody's like, okay, everybody get over here about the fire. You know, it's like we went over by the fire, and sure enough, we didn't hear anything after that. So the next day we had run out of our provisions, seeing that we only had a fourteen foot skiff to run back and forth from the shoreline. They we had a group of people, about half of them went back into town and then the ladies didn't want to come back out after that, so the guys that went out, they went back back into town. There's about six of us at State and we went fishing out on the lake that day. We had it's a deep part of the lake, so we set up rolling here. We were actually trolling for trout and we're talking twenty six inch trout champion, whatever trophy trout.

08 We're at it for. A couple hours, and then we went back to the campsite and we found all the tents that we had had, these giant these boulders that we had seen in that little lake or whatever the pool of water. We're talking three hundred to four hundred pound stones. Because it took you know, it took all six of us to even move those stones. All the tents were crushed. There were four different tens. There were four different tents that were set up. We're talking you know, medium family sized tents, not a small little tent, but big tents.

56 Something had to have been strong enough to left one of those stones up to drop it right in the middle of those tents. We're the only ones up there, and if it was a single person man, they had been super strong. And we're talking giant stones. And then we started to put the pieces together. And if if you know about commercial fishermen, we use explosives to ward off sea lions and seals away from our sane nets. And uh so I said, hey, guys, you know what those stones are from. It's from it's from the big guy throwing them off of that cliff up there.

38 We looked up there. There's a cliff right above that, above that pond. So we figure that he probably throws stones in there when he sees big fish down there because it pustal clear water. And so we I put two and two together that these things. Use stones for concussive fishing. They throw the rock in there, they kill the stun the fish, and go down there and pull the fish out. Like I was saying, there's not they're not a small trout in that lake. So uh and so in so we we uh we decided not to capture that night. Yeah, we packed him.

22 So yeah that was uh, that was in the year two thousand. So I have a couple of kickers for you. It relates to cryptozoology, if you even want to. Call it that, because these things are real. Uh. And this goes back in even four years before this story that I just told you, probably in the probably about that springtime in nineteen ninety six. My best friend it was actually his birthday, uh. Two days ago that birthday of that guy well. Out bike riding and he decided to take the main road and I decided to take the bike trail, which.

07 Is a long. This is on Anett Island, so if anybody wants to look at that. There's a bike trail along lake. It's called Skaters Lake. There's a bike trail, and then there's a main road, a main highway. It's called Airport Road. It goes about fifteen miles out the road as we call it, because on an island that's all you have is out the road. There's no highways whatever. So I take the bike trail and I'm up at the top the higher elevation of the bike trail waiting for my friend to hoof it on his bike on the main roadway around the other side of the lake. Well, I get here to the top of the trail, I'm waiting on the road and I hear a tree break And we're talking about so there's there's different portions of what do you call it, not foliage, but different type of vegetation and landscaper. It's muskeg. You know, you step in that muskeg and you're sinking in. But I'm talking about a tree. These are These are stunted uh, stunted pines all over that muskeg. Again, stunted bolt to become vulpines, and I hear one of them break, and I was like, I have there been a big vulpine a break like that?

35 And then I hear this whoosh whoosh, like like you know, a bird or maybe a giant bird, which is what I'm getting to you here flapping its wings. And then it stopped. And then it must have seen my friend coming along on the bike or something. But we're talking. These things must have pretty good vision. My buddies. My buddy's there. He pulls up and I'm like, hey, be quiet, there's something in the in the woods there. This is you know, this is a place where the forest meets the muskeg things like that. And basically the next thing that happened after I said that, not more than ten seconds.

23 Later, woo whoosh, whoo whoosh. And if you never heard of thunderbird, that's that's what it was. That's what I think it was. I don't know anything else that has. Giant wings that can make a sound like that, right, And we. Didn't have giant blue we didn't have giant bluetoothes speakers or electricity in forest, you know, twenty four years ago. So that that's another one. And then I'll get back to big Foot. I heard you. Guys talking about Ohio, and I just want to put it out there again that.

08 I am a long haul driver. Eleven years ago, I was working for the guy i'm actually working for now, and I had produce. Going from Covington, Kentucky. I had to drive back up on seventy five to get on Highway thirty five in Okkah and Jeffersonville, and that goes eastbound over into West Virginia and we're talking Chillicothe area, and you have to pass through Jackson County. It was about five o'clock in the afternoon evening at that point, and we're driving along. We had just took a break on one of the rest stops. My wife was with me, and I am very observant, like a hyper not like a vigilante, hier, very hyper vigilant on what's going on, because I'm in a tractor trailer and that includes anything in anything in the ditches. You know, is everything safe? You know, I'm looking a mile ahead of myself, but you know, as comes along and it's starting to become an open field, and then there's trees right along the field and the ditch, you know, basically a ditch there. And I've seen something move, you know, I've just seen something shift and uh got pretty close

43 to that tree. And I you know, I don't have I'm not a thirty five millimeter but I. Kid you not. My human eyes can zoom in and see what in the world's going on. It's like, that's not a marege. And I looked and he stood up and it was a bigfoot. And never in my never in my life or in my travels or even in my dreams. But I think I had seen a bigfoot in Ohio. And that happened, and and that's. I don't know, if you're familiar with an author named Doug Waller, Yes, I shared that. I shared that story with him, and he put that little kicker in a book.

30 Uh you know, you know, he didn't share my name anything like that, but yeah, I shared that story with them, maybe ten ten years ago or something like that. Sure enough he put that, Uh he put my little kicker story in the book. So but yes I did, and I do know. Because of what I seen, there must be I mean, we all have different races of our human humanoids, you know, but we. Have black people we have all kinds of white people, we. Have all kinds of Native Americans, are any kind of Pan American or whatever, different races across the world.

13 And I have no question that there are different types. Of these mammals. They're a mammal, that's what they are. And in my tribe, so I am a ciention Indian. Uh, like I was saying, we inhabit an Island in Alaska. We emigrated from Canada. So we have two different types of bigfoot. We have a little guy, his name is Bouch and they're not necessarily a juvenile bigfoot. This is a whole another set of little you know, they're little bigfoot. Uh, they're little, but they have big feet real. And then we have we have the big guy and he is commonly known as boots Wook. These are our names that we have for him, Boo Swook and bows. Bouch is the little guy.

15 Boo Swook is the big one. So I have I have good there's no question. And you know in the mythology, in the background of my tribe, my culture and the historical teachings, we never had pen and paper, right, Our stories were our pen and paper. Our stories were our book. And I have only shared the story. Of one of the one about Ohio with a couple of people, and then uh, the one that happened on Lower Tamgas Lake. If you look at lower and you look at Tamgas Lake on the island, you will see there's an upper and a lower Tamgas Lake that's separated by waterfalls. There are there's a ropes course in the Lower Tamas Lakes area. There are wolves, Uh, there are other predatory animals there.

15 There are now bears there. And uh there you know, we don't have moves, but we we think that because of the because of the high rate of wolves, that's why there are no blood. There are rarely any black bears there, but they swim across. They have to swim across. They have to swim miles to get to the island. But we think that bigfoot on an island there. There are many places that have caves. There are many places that have not. You know, people will probably walked right past it and not known what is there.

58 So that's sure. The big portion of my story was the one about the fishing and the stones that were placed on our tent. I don't know if they're placing or phone there or whatever, but there are three three to the four hundred pound rocks. That were sitting on there. You know, we put the two and two together about how we think that. The big guy issues in that pond right there where we can right and so story they're hopefully kind of us interesting or by no means conclusive as to what. What these uh, I guess I'll say what these people want to do and how they.

44 Want to you know, be so reclusive to using. Real because I've at least seen one in my time. There is one video. There's a video on Facebook. Look, I'm sure that a lot of the communities have seen. But if if you're interested in what I believe they look like in the area where I am from, you can look. Up Ketchikan Bigfoot. Okay, kitchign Bigfoot. This is in ketcha Can, Alaska. It's about twenty miles from the story that I just told. And if you look close enough in that forest, it's it's interspersed with older trees. Older trees are the softest of all hardwoods.

35 And then we're talking. This is a Congress National Forest where it's it's a lot of brown and you know, dark coloring, but there. Are a lot of alders that also grow in there. So if you look, if you can. You get conclusive enough about the video, you can agree with me that these animals, they have the same type of camouflage that would blend right in with the older trees. And in that video you can see what it appears that he is carrying food. And at the time that this video was shot by whoever shot at the anonymous that it was in the springtime.

21 So in the springtime, we have something that is called skunk cabbage and. They have giant four to five foot leaves and then they have a stamen, a stamen that comes up it. You know, it flowers, it has a nice white flower to it, and then it gets hard in the middle and it seeds. And then it's at that point you know, our people use this plant too, and the stamen that grows up. Out of it. But you can see you can see the bigfoot that's holding the stamen in his hand. If you look at that video, catch can bigfoot? You even have it slowed down and stabilized in ten eighty B. So I hope everybody liked my story. I am actually behind the wheel.

11 I am six miles exactly before crossing in Arkansas, and then let's see, I have seventy four miles to go until our reached Memphis. So wow, that's I appreciate your accounts. And man, it really makes you wonder when you hear stuff like that. If that was a warning, like, hey, we can put this rock on top of your tent, but you weren't in there, But next time you might hear. I don't know, but thank you so much Tech for coming out. I appreciate that. I hope. I hope what I said everybody believe me because I'm not a bsir.

53 No. I think it's I think it's important what you shared. Thank you, Yes, yep, exactly, Thank you, Bud. All right, Well, we hope to hear from you another time. Yes, I'm happy I found you on Live. I follow you, and I thank you so much. Thank you, sir, all right, good stuff. Tech had some really interesting stuff. We had. It are back and forth. I think there is a lag going on. I hope to talk to him another time. I bet he has stories about Prince of Wales Island. That's my guess, because that island he was talking about was right.

38 Right next to it. You have a great, great day all. Thank you for the support and for the community. Guys. You guys all rock. We'll see you next time. Before we wrap this episode, I want to say something directly to a very specific group of listeners. If you're in the military, any branch or forces, and if you've seen something that no one can explain, or if you're a National park ranger, or forestry worker who's been told to stay quiet, or if you're a pilot who's seen something strange down on the ground, or if you're with the FBI a federal agency, or working intelligence and you've stumbled upon something you're not allowed to talk about. And if you're a firefighter, paramedic, or search and rescue responder who's heard screams or found tracks that didn't make sense. If you're in the logging industry on a remote oil field, or a trucker with government contracts and you've had something happen that you've never told a soul. And if you're a biologist, a wildlife specialist, or a field researcher under contract who has found evidence you're not allowed to report. If you're a pastor, a missionary, or someone on a spiritual retreat and you saw something that shook your faith, or if you work in the shadows, CIA, NSA or anything with clearance and you've seen what the public hasn't, then I want to talk to you, even if it's anonymous.
