Derek is an individual from southern Middle Tennessee that reached out by leaving a comment on a YouTube video and we're able to get connected that way. So welcome to the show. Derek. How's it going today?

0:56 It's going well, how about you. You know a little bit of flurries up here in Iowa, but not too crazy, so we're we're enjoying the weather. There was actually four degrees here in Tennessee this morning, and they closed schools because of it. Oh my goodness. We just had negative twenty before down there. That's that's a wild time. Yeah, if you want a party, come up here, man, we'll give you a negative forty some years. But Derek, before we get started, is there anything that the listeners would need to know about you for background or for context? Well, I'm a native here. I've lived here all my life, born and raised out in the country. The county I live in it borders pretty much Alabama, so we're very southern the I sixty five corridor, or we're about forty five minutes south in Nashville. So it all started around nineteen ninety four to nineteen ninety five. I was around ten years old and my best friend lived down the road from me. I mean, we're in the country house since we're maybe a mile apart, so I would ride my bike down there. Well, I remember, like it started.

2:06 I would ride my bike and I would hear something in the woods, very loud, pacing me, and I didn't know what it was, and I still I kind of just didn't know at that point, but it was really loud. So I would just ride quickly. But that kept going for several weeks. I would hear the pacing when I ride my bike up and down the road. But then one night, see my house. It was it's situated. We have pine trees all around it. We're at the corner of right beside some a forest, and so when we have a security light in one corner of the yard, and then my bedroom's on one end appearances on the other than our dining room, the living rooms in between that, I decided to go to the kitchen to get a snacks, probably around probably around eleven o'clock to midnight, somewhere around that area. Everybody else in the house was asleep, so I decided to go to the kitchen. The kitchen's right behind the dining So I was walking through the dying and I just happened to look out the window. And what I saw I can't forget. I couldn't make out like really good features, but I could see the eye shine.

3:17 It was yellow, and it was standing at least seven eight foot tall, because our house probably four to five feet off the ground, and then the windows up a little higher, and it was almost like I was looking up at it and it was in a tree, standing by a tree outside of a dining room window. I could barely move for a minute because it scared me, And then, like being a ten year old, I decided to turn around and just had to tail it back to my bedroom and hide under my blankets, like that would do any good, So I did that. I probably didn't sleep well that night because of that. But then moving on after the original sighting, I didn't actually see it anymore. But anytime I was home alone, something would come and do three knocks on the back end of my house and they were loud knocks, like the whole house you could hear it. And this is pretty much always when I was alone, except one time my mom happened to be home and she heard it and she was like, what was that. I said, it's the knocks I tried to tell you about. But my parents, I never really talked to them about it because I didn't know if they believed me. For one, because my dad's kind of like a skeptic. He doesn't believe things like that, and I haven't talked to him about it now. But I just know that there was something out there, and

4:48 I don't I've never understood whether it was interested in just me or if it was the area. But I know that the Knox they continued till I moved out. I didn't move out till I was about twenty five. I remember hearing the Knox even till then, So I still believe that he's out there. I still, like to this day, I still sometimes get the feeling I'm being watched when I go to my parents' house. The first time when you had that sighting, was there any any work being done around the house, or did you notice anything the ordinary about, you know, maybe any tracks or anything outside The next day.

5:36 I didn't because at that age I really didn't think about going to look out at tracks because I at first I was like, what is this? Because it was very tall and standing in the front yard, but nothing else could explain it because we don't really have bear very often in this area, and plus that was taller than bear. And it was just staring, like right in the dining room, like it knew where I was and it was waiting for me. That's how what I felt at the time. You mentioned that you can see many details. Could you see like a silhouette or an outline of it?

6:17 Though I could tell it was really wide because we do have a security light. But where it was standing it was pretty shaded because of the trees, so it was hard to see very much. I could tell it did have fur, and it was black fur, and I could see the eyes they were like this yellow looking at me, which that could the shine could have been from, Like we usually had night lights stuff like that in our dining room, so it was decently lit that you could see. Gotcha. Could you get a feel for how wide across it may have been judging off of other things that you could see it by.

7:07 Well, the body was at least like twice the width of me, well me now, not me then, but twice the width of me now. And I'm pretty wide in myself because I've nut told I'm broad shoulders, so it's pretty wide span. And I know the head was pretty big because the eyes weren't close together like we ares a little bit further apart. How far apart would you estimate that those eyes were. M at least probably It's hard for me to estimate. It's been so long, at least probably six to eight inches because it's a pretty big head, and I couldn't tell if it was conical shaped. I couldn't really tell the shape of the head. I just knew I saw the eyes, and I could see how broad the figure was and how tall it was.

8:01 Could you tell anything about how the head was situated on the body? I couldn't, because, like I said, it was it was around midnight, and I looked at it for probably ten to fifteen seconds before I turned around and ran back to my ring because being a kid, everybody else in this house was asleep. I turned around and ran absolutely. Could you see anything about the shape of the arms when it was standing there? From what I can remember, its arms were down probably knee length, And like, I really don't think it had any ill will I think it was just interested, because like it didn't stand like angry. It was just standing looking maybe like it was just interested.

9:00 Did you get the feeling that it may have been a male or a female or is it pretty hard to tell because of the time of the day. I kind of feel like it was a male just because the size, because I have heard that usually females are a little bit smaller. The house that you were in at that time, did it have other neighbors pretty close by or would you guys kind of a little bit out there in the woods. The closest house was my grandmother's house, and it's like maybe almost a mile with a big long field in between our houses. But we were nestled right beside the woods.

9:45 Our house was okay, and the other there wasn't any houses on that side of the road besides us. Did Grandma ever have any stories about things in the woods or be careful when you go out in the woods type things. I had never really talked to her about that. I know that I liked going back in the woods because I used to have a geep and I would drive it back there. But she would always just she didn't like for us to go in the woods. So maybe, but I've never actually talked to her about it. That might be interesting, you know, there's a chance like maybe she just didn't want her grandkids to go in the woods. But I mean, there could be something there if you were able to ask her. I don't know if that's the possibility, but might be interesting.

10:36 Yeah, I can try talking to her. I know she has Alzheimer's now, I don't know how much she could remember, but I could try talking to her absolutely, which I may get the guts to talk to my dad about it too. See when he says, oh, yeah, that's another great point. You know, if you've actually never had that conversation, that could be very very interesting, especially as an adult. And he still lives there. So was this your first introduction to something that like a big foot type creature or had it come up in your life in other ways before this? It was the first time with the actual bigfoot creature, but I have seen other paranormal type things.

11:24 Was that before or was that after before in that same house. Yes, because in the house, I've seen shadows, We've heard laughing, and other people have actually witnessed the laughing and like laughing shadows, cabinet doors opening closing, you'd hear footsteps sometimes. And what's unique about the property where this house is there's actually a case system under it. But it had a very small entrance because when I was young, bats would fly out, so my dad actually blocked up the entrance and then grass are over it, so you can't see where the cave is anymore. But like you can see rock outcropping in our front yard because when I was little, I used to play like they were steps to a castle, so there was actually a cave system underneath where that house is.

12:28 All right, yeah, okay, I get I get it now. So when when did your dad block up the entrance to that cave system? Oh, that was probably I was probably about eight or seven when that happened, So that might have been around ninety two or ninety three because he was afraid we would get hurt. Okay, So this was like a year or so before you had your saving yes, okay. And the other things that you've been talking about, the shadows, laughing, cabinet doors opening, how long before your sighting did those happen?

13:15 Those? They were probably the early nineties. I know, as long as I could remember. I remembered noises in the house, and like my sister in law was the first one heard the laughing, and then another thing. I also, I would hear my name called out sometimes, and usually that was when I was alone. I would hear my name called out, and I would be like, okay, boy. So the hearing the name called out and all those things, were they actually coming from inside the house or did it ever sound like it was coming from beneath the house?

13:55 It could have been from beneath the house, which I also like, we would usually have win open, and I remember the windows were open a few times whenever I heard my name called out too. Oh Okay, so you're saying that potentially it could have even come from outside sometimes too. It could have for sure, because like like I said, our house, it's set up the front. We have a big bay window and the woods are right to the right side from where I'm talking, the right side of the house. My bedroom's on the far left. But you know, I mean we would leave windows open a lot, and so it could have come from outside, could have been under the house. Now, one side of our house there's not much room to be under it. The other side there's plenty. Yeah, I know when we went under the house to work on stuff. One side you could like get on your knees or have plenty of height. The other side just crawling is all.

14:50 You could do. Okay, Yeah, it would be what a question to ask your dad. Why did you to ask him about more about if there was a catalyst event that made him close up the entrance to the cave under the house and get more info in that, that would be really interesting. Yeah, we'll have to ask him that I know when we were young, we would chase the bats because bats will come out of that cave. Okay. The laughing that was heard from inside the house or around the house, what kind of how would you describe what kind of laugh It was.

15:34 Kind of like a child's laughter. It didn't sound like an adult. It sounded more like a child laughing. Okay, so a child's laughter kind of Was it low pitched? High pitched? Oh, it was more like medium pitched. It might have been more like a middle aged child. Maybe not super young with squeaky squeaky voice, but the middle aged. Sure. The shadows that were seen inside the house, how tall were the shadows or was it just like you know, you wouldn't see much of it. Well, sometimes it would go all the way from Florida ceiling.

16:16 It just depended on like we had done remodeling at some point in the house, some of the shadows before the remodeling where our kitchen was opened the living room, so I could look straight from my bedroom all the way to the back door of our house. And so that's where I would see some of the shadows and they would be tall. And then that's also I would the cabinet doors would open and close. It's just random strange things that and I mean, one thing's funny. Tell you backstory. The house that's sitting there is a double wide. It is not an old house, Okay, so I think it has more to do to the land that is sitting on the houses.

16:58 Yes, we are getting there because I was sneaking my way there that Yeah, so it's a double lde on the property is put on top of a cave system. Are there any other things that could be around this property, perhaps old burial grounds things like that. I'm not sure. I mean, it always could be a possibility. Now I've heard. I don't have this, like, I haven't researched to find out for one hundred percent, but I've heard that where that house is, during the Civil War there was like a small community that was there because my neighbor's house is an old log cabin and they've added to it over and over, and that log cabin was around back in that time. And I've heard on the back of the property, which this is one hundred acres where my house sat, there is an old foundation like sitting on top of the hill way back in the way woods.

18:01 Do you know any specifics about what kind of community it was. I don't. I wanted to research into it, but I haven't researched into that yet. I was just told that that was that there was some kind of a community back then. And I know there's a house close to that that served as a hospital during the Civil War. Is a really old big house. And how how far away approximately, Well, we gotta be. Careful with as as as the crow flies. Maybe a mile or two from my house, Okay, gotcha.

18:41 So the shadows that you would see in the house, what would what would approximately be the tallest they would ever get? You had to give a height to them. Well, I mean they they could be about up to eight feet because they would go all the way up to the ceilings, and we had eight foot ceilings, okay, And you would just see them. They would move sometimes you see it out of the corner. I sometimes you could look and you just see the shadow move across the wall. Do you know when the double wide was put on the property. Let's see, it was put on there, probably around nineteen ninety okay, because we had a single wide there before and we lived there. That the single wide probably got put there around nineteen eighty six. Then we got the double light after that.

19:37 For listeners that aren't familiar with that terminology, single wide verse double wide applies to the width of the trailer. Is that right? Yes? Okay, man, this is Derek. Yeah, I man, I can tell how you're There's a lot of weird stuff going on with this one. Oh there's more. I know, We're not We're not to the end of it either. Yeah, I mean you keep going, man. Yeah. Well another thing that happened, This one actually happened to me, my brother and my mom. We were on the way home from I used to be boy Scouts. We're on the way home from my boy Scouts and this was before the sighting, and we were turning off of one of the highways and above us there was a UFO.

20:34 It was floating above us with no noises whatsoever, with lights surrounding it, and it was circular shaped. We stopped directly under it. My brother and mom got out and looked up. I was sitting in the back seats. I was looking out of the window, and I don't know if the car wouldn't start or if it just hesitated, but I know it took us a minute, and my mom was yelling go go and so and my brother was driving, and then finally we took off and left. But I know that it made zero sound and it was floating above us, right above the trees.

21:15 Was that a one time event with that UFO? That was at one time event? Because I never saw it again. And I though the reason I said earlier, when my dad's a skeptic, we told him that. He said it was probably an airplane or a helicopter, and my mom was like, that was not a helicopter. I'm just going to say, for me, if I was in that situation where I lived in a house with shadows and there's a UFO and all this stuff going on, people are hearing their voices called, I don't know how long I would be a skeptic for. But unless maybe he didn't really experience much himself, I mean.

21:56 I don't think he has experienced as much. I know that a few people have heard the sounds in the house, but I've experienced the most of it. I don't know if maybe I'm more sensitive to it. Has anything ever been recorded inside the house? No, because I mean we didn't we didn't have video cameras and anything like that, and like the video recording didn't come to play till probably around two thousand and three because we didn't have the smartphones or anything exactly. Yeah, And I think that's an important thing to bring up because a lot of listeners are probably going to be like, well, why aren't you just recording your film because guys pecks in we didn't have that stuff, you know, it's just didn't have it.

22:51 Yeah, because the UFO was probably in nineteen ninety two. Wow, And we didn't have a phone, like a cell phone at all then, and it like we just carried cameras around with the cyber. Are you guys religious at all? Yeah? We are. Was anyone brought in or anything utilized to try to control what was going on in the house? No, okay at that point, is like it was just me and my mom really at that one point that experienced it, and my dad, like I said, was a skeptic, So pretty much we just hawked it up to I guess this is just what we live with.

23:36 M So I'm thinking through everything really quick. So the main things that we're attributing to Bigfoot is the actual sighting by yourself and the knocking on the side of the house when you're alone. But also your mom heard it once, which is interesting because you two are the main ones that experience the other stuff too, right, Yes, yeah, definitely super sensitive to stuff. Were there ever any conversations with neighbors to see if they had experienced things that were out of the ordinary as well?

24:24 I don't think so. Now. One funny thing is I don't remember very much in my childhood, and I've never really known why. I remember these instances that happened, but for some reason, like I don't remember my childhood. So I mean, this is way out of what I am, you know, but just from what I've heard myself, hypothetically, sometimes if there's a lot of trauma, maybe things can get blocked out of our memory. But I'm not trained in that field at all, right, but it could be a possibility.

25:06 I've told my spells. I'm like, I just don't remember my childhood, Like I can see bits and pieces of it, and like I remember this stuff because it stands out, but like the rest of it, and I'm just like, I don't remember. Because you can look at it as potential trauma response, but you could also if you were, you know, into the UFO side, of things. Well, maybe then this is a thing where potential memories got erased. Something happened and we just don't remember it, or maybe it's just you might not have a good memory for that time of your life, which is okay too. You said you had a sister. Right, I actually have five siblings.

25:49 Okay, And did all of the siblings pretty much experience these things as well? Or were there some that just didn't like your father. Not that I know of. I haven't ever actually talked to them about it. They're all older than me. I'm the youngest, so some of them were moved out whenever we were experiencing everything. Now, I do know that my brothers used to tell me that bigfoot was going to come into my window and look at me. So I'm wondering if they saw something, they just never talked about it. Okay, So was that before you had your sighting? Yes, that was before. They always made sure that my bed was by the window.

26:30 That's nice of them. I know that that would be a really interesting conversation to Derek. I think, to be like, hey, did anything kind of leave it? You know, did anything weird ever happen in the house that you guys remember or you know, you could get really specific with the hey, did you know did you guys actually see bigfoot or anything? You know, it could be really interesting. I think, yeah, I may have a chat with them, and then I can email you about it too. So eventually you got old enough you left the house, probably to go on and do your own thing as an adult. Did all the weird things you were experiencing stop at that time or did you still experience stuff even after going to other places?

27:23 I haven't experienced as much. I know in one house we lived in, there was definitely spirits, but I haven't experienced anything like what it was at that house. Okay, so do you mind sharing, like what kind of other things that have still been happening. Well, in the one house we were in, I could hear music, usually a classical music playing, but in that house I had horrendous nightmares, like I would be laying in bed and something would wrap the blankets around me and try to choke me in my dreams.

28:03 Yeah, m. I and I've had no experiences. So current current location, you're good to go. Nothing, nothing's weird is happening. No, and it's it's an older house too. The thing it was built in twenties. But I haven't had any experiences in this house. It's quiet and we're we're in the city, but we're kind of backed up to an area of woods. But I mean, I haven't heard anything here besides the occasional owl. Southern Middle Tennessee. Is it well known for? Is there a lot of Bigfoot activity that is known to happen in that area Tennessee?

28:52 From what I've heard from other people I've talked to, it is because I know something. There's a big photo that lives up near me now that is that several experiences and actually told me, and I know I can share this because it was in his live that there are neighbors of mom that have had experiences like where I used to live. Oh really, Yes? Is that our mutual friend? Yes? Okay, cool, Yeah, that's awesome. I figured, like, yeah, when you talk to him, it's gonna it's gonna be pretty intense because like he has all that that info. But that's real that So you're saying the original residence where all this weird stuff is happening, where you grew up, there was a neighbor that was also experiencing bigfoot activity yes, Oh nice.

29:42 I'm not sure of the year year range. We haven't gone over the exact year range of the other experiences with the other neighbors. But he said, I'm not alone. Oh wow, that's awesome. I mean, which it's it's beautiful country and it was all woods. We have creeks, we have ponds, there's big fields. There's plenty of area for anything to survive out there. Is there a potential food source as well in that area? Others deer, there's turkeys, pretty much any animal you would want out there? Would you would you ever want to see one again or get a better look at what you saw that that night.

30:25 I think I would just to better understand it, because I really don't feel like it wanted to hurt me. I think it's more interested because you know, I told you I heard the pacing in the woods. I never felt like it was out to get me. Oh man, this is this is It feels like this is getting to a really big story. It's it's extremely extremely interesting. I can't wait to I hope you do have some conversations if you feel comfort well enough having them with siblings and your father. I feel like there's a lot a lot more to the story that you just don't know yet be interested to hear what comes from this.

31:14 And I wish I could talk to my mom more because I knew that she had some of the same but she actually passed away last years, so I can't hear that. Oh thank you, But yes, I will have some conversations with my family. I've always thought about going camping out there again, but then part of me, like part of me is still kind of a little scared, but I would still like to go out there again. It might be interesting. So I feel that there are certain individuals that do really kind of stir up, you know, the stuff. Either you're just more sensitive to it, or it says, oh, this guy's here, be interesting if you did go camping in that area, what might happen? Yeah, have you ever had anything happen when you've gone camping before?

32:13 We didn't really go camping much out there. I did camp one time with my friend, but it was over on their property, but I don't remember anything actually happened. Then. I think it's just a normal night. We had a campfire and then we slept in a tent. Of course, you hear the noises out in the woods. You feel like you hear things walking around, so you never know. They could have been out there watching. Still, they just didn't make themselves known. Absolutely this area of southern Middle Tennessee. Would there also be stories that would be passed around of other things to look out for besides Bigfoot? Or was that the main cryptid for the area. We could say that.

32:59 That's the main one that I've ever heard of. I haven't heard of dog Man or any of the other cryptids being mentioned down here. Gotcha, Derek, It's this has been just a really fascinating conversation, and I just want to say thank you for being so open and sharing you know, what you experienced through your your upbringing in that house.
