Missouri Bigfoot Encounters: A Hunter’s Unsettling Story from Roby (Bigfoot Society Ep. 921)

A Veteran Outdoorsman Faces the Unknown

In episode 921 of Bigfoot Society, host Jeremiah Byron speaks with AP, a seasoned outdoorsman, military veteran, and expert turkey hunter from Roby, Missouri. AP’s story is more than a campfire tale—it’s a firsthand account of a man who spent decades mastering the wilderness, only to encounter something he couldn’t explain.

Raised in the rugged woods of Pennsylvania and New York, AP spent over 20 years in the U.S. Army’s Military Police Corps. His woodsmanship and investigative background give his story a rare level of credibility and precision. But even with all that experience, nothing could prepare him for what he encountered in the Mark Twain National Forest.

Strange Lights and Unsettling Sounds

AP’s experiences began in 2018, when a friend offered him access to a 250-acre cattle farm surrounded by public forestland near Roby, Missouri. While the land looked like a hunter’s paradise, something about it felt off from the start—silent, empty, and heavy with unease.

One morning before dawn in 2019, AP watched a glowing orb of light—“the size of a basketball, like a lantern”—drift steadily across an old farmhouse yard. There was no logical explanation: no headlights, no reflections, no people. Just an eerie, self-contained glow.

Two weeks later, while turkey hunting with his wife and two guests, AP experienced something that shook him to his core. From over a nearby ridge came a deep, guttural voice—something that sounded like broken English, saying “What you doing?” The sound hit him like a physical force, vibrating through his chest “like a frying pan to the ribs.” The woods fell silent. No birds, no turkeys—just stillness and fear.

Knocks, Drums, and the Sound of the Woods

Later that year, AP’s wife—an active-duty Army officer—went bowhunting alone on the same property. She soon texted him in a panic, asking to be picked up immediately. She described hearing tree knocks, rhythmic drumming, and flute-like sounds echoing through the forest. There was no wind, no other people, and no rational explanation.

In 2020, out-of-state hunters who used the same property reported having rocks thrown at them while hunting—unseen assailants hurling heavy stones from the woods. After that, the lease ended, and AP avoided the farm.

Connecting the Dots: From Skeptic to Believer

AP never considered himself a “Bigfoot guy.” But after years of strange experiences and discovering similar reports in his area—including a 2023 turkey hunter sighting in Roby, Missouri—he began connecting the dots. When he later heard the famous Sierra Sounds recordings from the 1970s, he recognized the same deep, vibrational tones he’d experienced firsthand.

His military background taught him skepticism and discipline, yet the evidence—and his own encounters—convinced him that something real exists in those woods.

“I used to think there was a rational explanation for everything,” AP says.
“Now I’m 85–90% convinced these things are real.”

Why Roby, Missouri? The Mark Twain Mystery

The Mark Twain National Forest is a vast, remote wilderness stretching across southern Missouri. Its dense cover, ridges, rivers, and old logging tracts create an ideal habitat for large animals to stay hidden. Hunters and residents have reported unexplained screams, tree knocks, and rock-throwing for decades. AP believes heavy logging operations and habitat loss may be pushing something—whatever it is—closer to human settlements.
