Tobe Johnson and Alicia Phifer set up camp near the Patterson–Gimlin trailhead at Bluff Creek, California. During their stay, they heard unexplained metallic snapping outside their tent and experienced unsettling nights that left Tobe questioning whether he could stay.


The researchers behind Olympic Strange Days join Jeremiah Byron to recount that three-day campout—and the questions they carried home. What were they hearing beyond the tent? What happened when they turned their thermal camera toward the road?


The conversation continues on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, where an outdoor recorder captured unusual vocalizations and something the couple describes as rapid running near their cabin. Hear the recordings, their firsthand recollections, and the details they’re still trying to understand.
